In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the child prodigy category. This was not surprising given that she was a woman who was of Irish origin, growing in a family with a talent. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons came second from a group of 6 FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. The combination of this natural interest and her talent in performing was astonishing. As evidenced by receiving nearly every Feis awards for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she pursued her dreams of operatic and classical singing and theater.
